The arrival of yet another new professor

Aug 06, 2006 21:49

It was late afternoon when Soulfire arrived at the school that was called St. Catherine's. Although she could fly - or use any other kind of transport - she came on foot and carried a large, wooden staff with her, which she used to lean on. It had several strange markings on it and a deep red jewel on the top ( Read more... )

Kuma just finished going over what was in the supply closet of the gym. She was walking briskly back to the dorms when Soulfire caught her eye. Finally another teacher. She couldn't wait to meet her new co-workers.

"Um, excuse me," Kuma said shyly. "Are you a teacher here too? My name's Kuma, I'm new here."

Soulfire looked up when she heard someone talking to her and smiled. "Yes, I am a teacher here as well, though I arrived only a few minutes ago. My name is Soulfire." Her eyes took in the young woman before her and smiled again. "And you are?"

"I'm Kuma," Kuma repeated smiling. "I'm the new P.E. teacher, it's nice to meet someone else who's also new. What subject do you teach?" Pointing at Ruby with a somewhat bewildered look on her face, she adds, "And what is that?"

Soulfire followed the pointed finger and smiled tolerantly. "My familiar, Ruby. She's a faerie."

"I can speak for myself as well," the little creature said offended. "But if you're going to do all the talking for me, I'm going to look around on my own." Ruby turned her back to the two women and became invisible to explore the campus grounds.

The witch gave the other an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry. She's always a bit nervous around strangers. Anyway, I'll be the teacher for Fundamentals of Divination."

St. Catherine's had little need for a gardner, because Katelyn instinctively took care of the various trees and bushes on her own. It was simply in her nature, being so closely tied to the things of nature, to protect and provide for the local plant and animal life. And despite being just another student with no official responsibilities, she could be found doing this almost as often as she could be seen in the classrooms.

Today, she knelt outside the dorm room that she and Liz Riley shared, watering and weeding some very unusual green bushes that she had planted earlier just outside their window. "It is not your time yet," she whispered to the plants in a soothing voice, speaking to them just as she would any other living thing. "But your time will come. And you will grow more beautifully, than anyone else in this land."

((OOC: Yeah, her back's turned, but she's right beside the entrance of the dorms if Soulfire wants to stop her to ask for directions. Or, if anyone else wants to jump in, they're free to do so as well.))

OOC: I'm just gonna let her respond to both. After all, there's Soulfire and her faerie. ^^

While the witch amused herself with introducing herself to one of St. Catherine's teachers, Ruby decided to explore the school on her own. She turned invisible again - faeries had a tendency to attract attention and the last thing she wanted was to be hunted down by some of those kids, who wanted to put her in some glass pot or anything.

A small girl attracted her attention. Of course, the whole field was littered with small girls, but this one seemed to be actually doing something useful. It didn't happen often that Ruby came across that. Even more interesting was the fact that this girl was connected very closely to nature.

Curious as ever, the tiny creature swooped down to Katelyn and popped visible again before her. "Why are you doing that?" she asked curiously.
