Can you imagine the news? "Two kids from a hippie commune outside Seattle were arrested today with attempting to castrate a religious protester with a stone Buddha. When asked to comment, the one who calls herself Aurus replied, 'What? We were just trying to make pancakes!' The religious protester was in too much pain to comment."
Thanks. I wish I knew who made it. Innit HILARIOUS?
You're welcome. And thank you! I've been enjoying reading your poems with such regularity lately, even if I don't always comment.
And seriously! I didn't even know people were protesting it until I saw an article in the newspaper... I was like, "What the heck? It's an action movie!"
Really. And a bad action movie at that, I hear. I fully plan to see it as soon as I have read the book, despite the fact that it is "an affront to my religion." bla bla bla.
I'm glad you're enjoying the poems. I plan to keep them coming, and it's good to know that most of my friends at least read through them.
The book was pretty good, actually... if you don't take it too seriously. Personally, I didn't like the movie. *laughs* And I agree with what you said. There were people outside Ward theatres who were passing out slips of paper you could turn in for $10 if you refused to believe in The Da Vinci Code and repented for all of your sins. And I was like, "Hey, isn't this a bribe?!"
If you did it with a Buddha, some people might take it the wrong way though... We should do it with a life-sized bust of our president instead.
I think they're all pissed about the fact that people WILL take it seriously and make non-believers even more firm in their non-belief. The Priory of Sion, however, believes that Jesus wasn't divine. He was ordinary man. And that he survived the crucifixion. But. Who knows if the has been around as long as they say they have. Nobody truly knows, unless you wanna take Pierre Plantard on his word. Hah.
Like I said, I haven't read the book, so this was probably a rather uninformed rant to some degree. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't think it's going to shake a believer's belief. In fact, I don't think it's going to shake the faith of even a weak believer... it's just some thriller that some guy wrote, and just as "Left Behind" isn't going to make me take Revelations literally, I don't think it's going to do more than just make some people go "Hmm."
As for the whole nonbelievers aspect, I think what's more likely to turn a person off to God is if they encounter someone who's a bully about converting them. Faith, in my opinion, should be found in one's heart. If you genuinely want to convert someone, give advice, lead by example, do your best to guide them...but don't condemn. As someone who struggled for years with religion precisely because she had been yelled at about it so many times, the worst thing you can do to a nonbeliever is to pressure them to believe.
I definitely agree with you. This book as well as Angels and Demons has made me want to explore the faith more, even though I was baptised Catholic (I lost my faith a couple years back and haven't fully regained it). But I do know that is something these Christians are flailing about (at least one of them is, as I basically mimicked what she said). I don't think what they realise is that the smart people, the people who aren't ignorant fucks, excuse my language, will be smart and sensible about it.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said regarding that movie. I agree with you definitely, as someone who was baptized Catholic and isn't terribly strong in faith. And I definitely think it's important to accept the movie as FICTION.
