I don't normally go out of my way to watch the Tony's... I don't watch the award shows since I have rarely seen anything up for an award. Hate all the ads anyway.

However, I must show a part of my ignorance. What is "Cradle Will Rock" and what does it have to do with "Mama Mia"?

If your reference was to the singing in the movie, I agree with you. It was pretty bad.

Cradle Will Rock fortunatly doesn't have anything to do with Mamma Mia, thank god.

the original Cradle Will Rock is a musical written by Marc Blitzstein in the mid-30s for the Federal Theatre Project (the short-lived arts branch of Roosevelt's WPA). the musical is very Brechtian and deals with Labor Unions and people fighting to keep big business from buying them, body and soul. it was considered somewhat subversive at the time, when the U.S. still hadn't chosen sides in what was to become World War II and big monopolistic business moguls such as Rockefeller and Hearst were using violent techniques to try to crush the growing Union movement ( ... )

In defence of the Tony's - many of the other perforomances were excellent :D
Mamma Mia - not high on my list but I'll be seeing the traveling cast this fall/spring since I splurged and got season tickets to the new performance center near me (Phantom and Wicked are some of the other shows)

I came in late and stayed because the dancer from Billy elliot and the air sequence were fun. Also I had nothing else to watch. They wrote a musical about depression?
