14 Valentines: Day 9- Gender
Fandom:Original Fic
Rating:PG
Summary:In her head she was still Rachelle but since her body seemed to be rebelling against that notion at the moment, maybe she had never been a girl at all.

Riley was born Rachelle in the third year of the Change. Her mother was old, her father even older, old enough that they could remember a time when having a baby didn’t mean meticulous planning, or trying to hold back labor for hours at a time to avoid one condition or another for a child.

Her oldest siblings were born before the change but she wasn’t, and that was what mattered, because one morning when Rachelle was 13 she woke up and she wasn’t a she anymore. At least that’s what she thought for a moment, as she screamed for her mother and absolutely. Did. Not. Move. It was all kinds of wrong because in her head she was still Rachelle but since her body seemed to be rebelling strongly against that notion at the moment; maybe she had never been a girl at all. Her mother appeared in the doorway and with the wonderful know-how of parental intuition knew what to expect, out of a possible two crisis’ that a preteen daughter could be having. She just hoped that she would be able to handle whichever one it was.

Two hours and a long talk with her parents later, which they would later recall as their child screaming at the universe (perhaps they should have told her sooner) and she would recall as a painful and uncomfortable period of what might have been life changing gravitas, Rachelle sat contemplating the potential newness of the world surrounding her.

She was a boy, at least on the outside, at least for now. She was smaller than she had been when she went to sleep, her sense of balance was shot to hell, her little brother was looking at her as though, she was a puzzle that needed solving, and odd were tilting in favor of her having to go to school the next day since she had no idea how to change back. None of these were good things.

It could have been worse. She wasn’t the first person to get their enhancement (which was what the teachers called them, pretty much everyone else called theirs powers). Ben had gotten his a week before and accidentally walked to the other side of the town in 4 steps during recess. A new name might be nice though, so no one would look to weirdly at her during roll call.

She was pretty sure that she still had a crush on Ricky in her third period class though (it made her cheeks heat up to think about him), her parents were acting much, much calmer than she thought they would, Becky had given her a hug without thinking or looking twice when she came out to see what was going on, and her puppy had sniffed her when she appeared in the breakfast nook and curled up in her lap, in what seemed like approval. She still felt like Rachelle, just from a different perspective. These were all good things.

All in all this is the peice that I'm least comfortable with at the moment, so if you have and sort of ConCrit it would be well recieved.
