I realise it's not been long since my last update, but I suddenly remembered a book I had read and not recorded! As such, here is that book review and one other:
'The Day of the Locust' by Nathanael West
'Bread and Chocolate' by Phillippa Gregory
'The Day of the Locust' by Nathanael West
This is the one I forgot about! I was drawn to the book initially by the cover, a pair of lips with dripping blood. Naively thinking it a vampire novel, I added it to my pile to rent from the library. This is not a vampire book. It is set in Hollywood, and shows the breakdown of a set of friends. Interesting, by not overly memorable (can you tell by my description? I only read it 6 weeks ago!) 2.5/5
'Bread and Chocolate' by Phillippa Gregory
Another collection of short stories - I'm getting quite into them! This collection centres around relationships on the whole, but each bite-sized tale is unique yet engaging. I especially liked the embittered, artist uncle who melts when he gets lumbered with his quiet, quirky niece for the summer holidays. All the stories though - the monk and the television presenter, the wife and the mistress, the couple and the mysterious 'Uncle Nicholas' had something different to get across. I really liked this - if only Gregory had written more short stories! I may have to get around to reading some more of her novels, instead. 5/5
