Y'know, maybe Henry Bemis wouldn't have wanted to read all the time if everyone in his life wasn't a total ass​hole.

A very good point. I haven't seen that episode, but I read about it, and seriously indeed, ugh, he was surrounded by utter jerks.

I feel like a lot of people who've never seen the episode have this idea that he's some kind of antisocial jerk who prefers books to people, when in actuality he's more like "I started reading a wonderful book today may I tell you about it do you like to read what's your favorite book? :D" while everyone else is all "HOW DARE YOU TRY TO HAVE A HOBBY." Even when his horrible wife destroyed his poetry book, he seemed more "but why? ;-;" than angry...and he was so excited when he thought she wanted him to read to her, he just wanted to share this nice thing he'd found and she was so horrible about it.

Suffice it to say I didn't have a lot of sympathy for the other people in the episode.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could get through the episode without rage directed at the majority of the characters. Ugh, that wife!
