Don't mind me, just sitting here, drinking tea, having too many feelings about cartoon mercenaries..
Spoilers, obviously.
So the last chapter of the comic didn't go so well for Sniper.
So the last chapter everyone was all
HE'S FINE HE'S FINE REALLY HE'LL BE FINE IT'S ONLY TWO BULLETS LOOK HE'S DOING OKAY HE'S STILL ALIVE ENOUGH TO WINCE HE'LL BE FINE HE'S FINE BABY'S FINE.
But then a writer at Valve tweeted a teaser panel for the next chapter, and now we're all
FIX HIM FIX HIM FIX HIM RIGHT NOW IF HE'S DEAD GO FIND HIS SOUL AND STUFF IT BACK INTO HIS BODY THEN GET HIM SOME CLOTHES SO HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE HE'S PREPPED FOR AUTOPSY BECAUSE HE'S ABSOLUTELY NOT PREPPED FOR AUTOPSY NO ONE IS CUTTING INTO THE DEAD PRECIOUS CINNAMON BUN HE'S NOT DEAD FIX HIM GDI MEDIC FIX HIM PLEASE.
Y'know, after the initial shock of seeing a major character actually, seriously wounded in this goofy little black comedy universe wore off, my stance on the whole thing was "they won't actually kill him," but now I'm not sure. D:
EDIT 6/10/15 - texting with Rae, in before canon:
Laj: But here, have a nicer thought to make up for all of the horrible thoughts: So Sniper is ready to just give up and rest, and sees his parents, but instead of welcoming him with open arms, they tell him he has to fight.
And he tells them he can't fight, he's a New Zealander, and Sniper's dad, reunited with his moustache in the afterlife, says, "Piss, son! It don't matter where you were from originally! We raised you Aussie! Now FIGHT!"
And Sniper wakes up and just suckerpunches Classic Heavy right there. And then goes on to punch Medic in the face. And probably accidentally punches Scout, too, because Scout just has that kind of luck.
Soldier starts to feel a little self-conscious because Zhanna seems just a bit TOO interested in all this punching, so he starts punching Classic mercs, too. Soon everyone's fighting back! The mercs win, and Miss Pauling commandeers their sub. And then they all go to a bar.
Rae: That was beautiful. ;w; He was raised Aussie and even New Zealanders get rowdy occasionally. Mostly during rugby season, but still.
Laj: That is how it's going to play out. That's how I'm going to picture it playing out even if it doesn't. Sniper has a lot of rough knife-fight experience with Spy...he knows how to cut a bitch when he needs to.
Rae: Exactly. Sniper is a grizzly man regardless!
