Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I took the kids to see Harry Potter yesterday (the kids took the day out of school to see it at 12:40) and although the movie was great in special affects and all, I was quite disappointed in it. I won't say much about it, so's not to ruin it for others, but there was alot missing from the movie and even a few things added that could have been ( Read more... )

I was so sure Lupin would mention the source of Wormtail et al there at the end. I was disappointed that he didn't.

I was also disappointed that Cruikshanks didn't "touch the knobby root" to freeze the tree, or that Draco wasn't shown being a dementor too.

But.... there were a zillion parts left out of one and two that were special to me... so I expected as much with this one. On its own merit... I loved it.

Oh, and I liked Dumbledore and except for the director's slightly distracting obsession with reflections and windows, I liked the director better.

Oh I would have loved it if they kept Malfoy and his gang being Dementors...that was funny in the book. And yeah i was a bit upset they didn't do the kobby root to trigger the tree to stop moving and was very upset they didn't do the Christmas scene (the present and all that followed)...I thought the holidays were kinda important ot the story...at least with the relationships and the Firebolt...heck, even in the second one, i waws upset they didn;t do the death day party and all...i guess i shouldn't be so judgemental on it...the movie in itself was pretty good...i just really love the books and the great way J.K. Rowling writes and her great descriptions of things and humor and all. Her books are brilliant...i just wish they ccould make the movies exactly like the book. lol Even if it winds up being 5 or 6 hours long. lol I would certainly buy it and watch it over and over again. lol

Or Peeves... they've left Peeves out once again.

Hubby's never read the books, so he can just enjoy the movies on their own merit. But after reading the books, the movies are a pale shadow.

Yeah, I'm kinda upset they never once showed Peeves and they really need to since he plays an important part in the 5th book...so they should have already had his character introduced...also they didn't introduce Cho Chang or Cedric which both of them play important roles in the 4th book...ugh, i can go on forever. lol My brother's sister in law was a bit miffed about the movie too...i think the true die hard fans of Harry Potter will be a little disappointed with this movie...I think I expected too much. lol

Haven't seen it yet but I WILL! HP is a BIG favorite of mine and Rawlings is an AMAZING writer. I always hope that when they make these movies that they do justice to the authors work. I've heard some critical things (Including yours) about the movie. I guess it's hard to capture the *magic* sometimes. Also....don't you think that the aging of the characters in the movie is a bit far advanced? Anyway....I'll see it soon enough....have a nice magical day! =O)

Actually, the kids in the movie are the same age as the characters in the book, so they can't really be aging wrong. lol Just not like they do in J.K. Rowlings eyes...though I do think they are advancing Ron and Hermione's relationship too quickly cuz in the books they really don't make it so blantently obvious that they like each other that way...not til the 4th book possibly...but yeah i know what you mean about "capturing the magic"...I was just telling my husband that this movie just didn't seem as magical as the others...though I know the stories get darker as they go from one book to the next...well i gotta run. lol my daughter woke up and wants me to read her more of book 4. lol it's almost midnight, i swear she waits for me to come home from work just so i could read more lol She really does love these books though and for that, I thank J.K. Rowling immensely...she really made my daughter see the magic in reading. :)

I saw it today with my mother and grandmother, and have read the books, although been close to a year, and yes I noticed somethings were decidely lacking....like Cho Chang for one, they introduced her character in the third book if memory serves me, also thought they could have expanded on the brief quidditch scene, although my mom and grandmother, both diehard Harry Potter fans noticed a lot more, saying that the color was bleaker and more depressing and while I think I get what they mean I am still a little fuzzy there, also my mother said that it was more superficial where as the first two you really got to know the characters in this one they kind of glossed over that aspect and the action took the reigns, and this is true, all in all it wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as the first two, so it definatley wasn't just you.
