Sweetie, I think you nailed down a big part of the equation right now. Not having Rob there is hard, and I don't blame you for feeling as you do. It's more than I can understand, because yeah, Mathieu and I could maybe get married in a few select places, but we don't have a kid, and it's going to be a few years before we do. But really, it is all about Vallerie. You have a wonderful little girl, and I've seen the videos and pictures. You're doing a great job.

I think you need to stop looking at this like it's 1954. There are a lot of women who keep their own names now. You can have your own bank accounts, and you can drive on your own. You're 27 years old and it's 2010. If you really feel like you need to do something, you should go back and do something. An online degree might be good, or something like that. Start writing, just do something!
