I love the smell of mud in the morning!

I jump out of bed with excitement on a cold and rainy Monday morning. Today’s the big day! It’s the first time I’ll be away from home for more than an overnight; it’s the first time I’ll be able to see something besides a boring utilitarian classroom during the week and NOT be on a school break ( Read more... )

This reminds me of my summer camp experiences. LOVED IT! They changed me.

Wow! Thanks for bringing back some old memories. I went to school in San Mateo County from 3rd grade through 7th, and I remember the tide pools and the dunes and the redwoods, and that there are a bunch of ways that redwoods reproduce, and that some require fire, and I remember the banana slugs.

But I don't remember if I kissed the boy who took me for walk in the woods late at night; and I *do* remember that I beat him in the dog-paddling race. :)

Haha!

I do remember that the boy who almost knocked me into the ocean at the tidepools became my boyfriend 2 years later, at the end of 8th grade... we went out for 7 weeks and when we broke up, I was heartbroken. LOL :)

I had mixed summer camp experiences...I went to a boy scout camp for years and loved every minute of it...but one time I went to a 4H camp or some shit (I wasn't even in 4h, but a friend was going) and it was awful...we were among the youngest kids and the older boys picked on us at night...although I did get to see junior high breasts while playing truth or dare, so I guess that was something.

Your enthusiasm is contagious! I was way too much of a wimp to do camp as a child, but I was often out in the woods. Thank you, this made me happy to read.

Thank you, I appreciate that! I was debating whether or not to go with crazy hyper, and I'm glad I did. Like I said in my intro post, what you see is what you get. :)

I always wanted to go to a camp, but there weren't any around, or weren't any we could afford. That sounds like a great experience!

You know, La Honda is where Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters had some land - and the psychedelic revolution began. ;D

It always sounded like a gorgeous place, with OR without dayglo trees.

I didn't know that... awesome! La Honda is quite gorgeous, I'd love to get back to visit someday.
