Great post. Well done.

Girls in my part of the country are also pressured into abstinance by their churches and parents and into some kind of "release" for their boyfriends. This has lead to my state having the largest number of teenage girls with oral herpes. We're talking middle school and high school here.

Whether we would have that statistic if our schools and parents took responsibility to teach our children the consequences of their actions, not to push one course of action on them.

You might want to add that the CDC has just released the numbers for 2006 and the unplanned pregnancy rate in teens has jumped up for the first time since 1991 because again schools are reverting back to Abstinence education under President Bush. Here is the link to the article by MSNBC.

Why am I always so embarrassed to be a Christian? Do these people not understand that kids are going to make choices they don't like no matter what? I'll be honest; I'll be telling my kids to stay abstinent, but they will not remain oblivious to the rest of the rather pertinent info.

Great essay. I didn't know about this at all, though it doesn't surprise me one bit.
