I dont mind Obama is in office. I dont really care one way or the other. He is just another one of the same politicians like any of the others...and I hope I am wrong that he will pull off miracles but I am lacing bets as to...ummmm... NO ( Read more... )

Obama at least is far more intelligent and doesn't have the same shady history and neo-conservative attitude of his predecessor, so that gives us some cause for hope ( ... )

Wow, I can't believe how much of what you just said was exactly what I was going to say. We are Americans, and we always do things too big and too loud, but I think it was a happy day. Let people have their moment.

I might disagree about which things he is getting wrong, but I am sure there will be things that our new president does get wrong either because he is mistaken, or for political reasons. There is no way he is magically going to fix things. But he seems to be intelligent, somewhat practical, well meaning, and popular with people home and abroad. Can we really ask for more from the guy we elect to the job?

I will get tired of the fawning soon, but this being the country that it is, I bet they will move on the trashing something he has done (or not done) before the week is out. And perhaps by the end of the day.

*smiles* exactly!

He's a leader.. he's not God. If he persuades people to be optimistic again, that will do more for the situation than one might think.. then again, higher taxes are here to come (via the Alternative Minimum Tax when the dollar hyperinflates, if nothing else).

These next 4 years will be very interesting. I just hope Obama doesn't end up wearing the blame for it.

Well coming from one who does not believe in such ( I don't do hypnotism and ra ra crap)...It's not hypnotism, it's not crap, it's just the statistical reality of markets. Markets have intensely strong feedback loops -- that's why things like bank runs happen. When people *think* a market is crashing, they behave in ways that cause it to crash. When people *think* a market is booming and is going to continue booming, they behave in ways that cause it to boom. (Which is where bubbles come from ( ... )

[Always dangerous to get me going on politics -- this comment had to be split.]

I had the source back when i wrote this, but since no one answered back then I dont recall it anymore. It's possible, but I'll believe it when I see the reality-checked facts. It doesn't match what I know of the situation, and I suspect it's a significant exaggeration. Don't forget that the right lies just as much as the left does, and they have a *lot* of incentive to make Obama look bad, so there's a good deal of misinformation floating around. Until I see numbers from a reliable source, I'm going to continue in my assessment that the money spent was mainly on security for the inauguration, not the parties ( ... )
