The (mis)Adventures of the timba

Dec 03, 2005 17:37

SO, I left work early yesterday due to a very very blah feeling. Mostly, there was nothing for me to do, and I just didn't want to be there anymore, so I asked to leave. Dee said yes. I'm driving home, when the timba calls. Can I play Timba-Taxi so she can get her car out of impound. Sounds simple enough, yes? Ha! Here's what really happened:

I picked the Timba up from work. Not too shabby. It was on the way anyhow.
We drive something like 30 miles up to Canton. Oops. Wrong building

And then ... we drove down to the jail (like, 4 exits south). It was of course, the second building we tried only because Timba said, "watch, it's gonna be the other building" as we were walking up. Okay, we have to get the updated registration before we can get the car out of impound. But how is this to be done? For the car is impounded and an emissions test is required to get the new tags. Hmmm ... well, as long as we have the receipt for the ad valorem tax, we can get the car. Okay.

And then ... we drove back up to Canton (other building, again) to get the tags. Nope, not so much. Because the car, which is in the Timba-mom's name, is still registered in DeKalb.

And then ... we drove to DeKalb. I don't know how many miles it is, but it's a ways a way. Okay then ... got the recepit. No tags, not without emissions, but we got the receipt.

And then ... filled up car. Filled up tummies.

And then ... drove back to the Jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200 dollars. Do not punch the bitchy woman in the face, even though she said NOTHING about tow-only release the first time we talked to her. WTF? Okay, we got the release.

And then ... we drove to the impound lot. All impound payments = cash only.

And then ...we drove to the ATM.

And then ... we drove back to the impound lot. Which is going to charge another $45 to tow the car all of 100 feet to the nearest emissions lot. Not enough cash.

And then ... we drove back to the ATM.

And then ... we drove back to the impound lot. Got the car. Towed.

And then ... we pull the car up to the emissions dock, and the engine light is on and the car ain't gonna pass no way no how. But, the light just means the gas cap is loose, and it's been like this for a while, and Kia can fix it.

And then ... we drove to Kia. Got the engine light turned off.

And then ... we drove to the emissions place. No such pass. Because there's some random fine print in the way an engine works: you must drive car for 60 - 70 miles for the system to reset itself. But we have expired tags? Drive 70 miles with expired tags where? Of course, by this time it's 4.15. The DeKalb tag office closes at 4.30. There's no chance in hell things are going to work.

And then ... Kat is returned to her car. The Timba returns to work. And talk about Drama.

drama, life, friends
