It wasn't really Michael Shanks.....

But it looked like him!!! kinda... if he had a beard and a mustache. But STILL - it looked like him, even sounded like him. Though I'm pretty sure it wasn't because I'm not that lucky and I'm pretty sure he doesn't live anywhere in Texas let alone wander into the same bar I've become a fan of here. BUT STILL - it was kinda cool. In a very Scrubs sorta way (If you watch that show, you might know what I'm talking about).

Anyway - Austin, TX is treating me pretty good. I'm looking for an apartment still. Long list to go visit at this point, and school to finish applying for, though I think I'm going to have to sit this semester out. I didn't have quite enough to get started there and get settled into an apartment just yet. I knew that was a possibility. But it's only a minor setback.

After a month of being here I'm feeling settled in. Finding my way around and getting used to navigating the streets.

I went to a brewery tour, in which free beer was had. Apparently this is something that happens on a regular basis around here. And I, never really being a huge fan of beer, have discovered that I was in a place were beer is just.. gross. As much as I love Kansas, the making of alcohol would not be an attraction I would point out for the place. There are a few exceptions, but overall, no comparison.

Texas, on the other hand, considers making beer or wine a competitive sport. There are so many varieties, flavors and alcohol percentages that you could drink small amounts and get pissed before you realize it. (Which is what happened a couple of times to me already!) And when you thought that you had some kind of tolerance, you suddenly come to realize, you've been stunted, and your tolerance is sorely lacking because I grew up in the wrong part of the country..  Thankfully, knowing this, I was not the driver or I've given myself about six hours of sitting and sipping water to recover from one beer. (And another fortunate thing that watching people at the bars is kind of a sport - you don't even worry about getting another drink!)

People are friendly, like to talk, like to gossip and love to meet new people. Maybe it's the influence of the college atmosphere or maybe it's the whole big heart of Texas, I'm not sure exactly.. BUT I LIKE IT!  And it likes me apparently.

I'm sure at some point the honeymoon stage of newness and coolness will wear off, but I don't expect it any time soon and I can't imagine a time where I wouldn't find something interesting or new here to grab my interest. There's just that much to do and see here. And don't get me started on the food.. wow!

Anyway - it's good so far, and I'm glad I made the move. I'm hoping the new year brings some great opportunities! I know I'm looking forward to it!
