Yuletide, Part 3: in which I pass on friends' recs, and recommend some more stories written for friends and about friends' media endeavors, and do some general end-of-alphabet recs.
Lunete and Ondine, or The Clever Maiden, written for ineptshieldmaid. BRILLIANT. This is written by someone who knows medieval literature, both in the particulars and the general themes. (Seriously, I can pin down the sources for quite a few of the passages in this text because they're ones I quoted in my dissertation. If I don't already know this author, I really want to!) It's about chivalry, devotion, women's friendship and love, and where those lines intersect.
Fa Mulan and the Triwizard Tournament Conundrum: Disney heroines at Hogwarts. Adorable and fluffy. rec via

rymenhild,
The Very Secret Diaries of Saint Augustine. Augustine as Bridget Jones. HILARIOUS. "Have become Manichee. Solves all problems! All living things duality of good and evil. Wine v. bad. Melons and cucumbers v. good."

rymenhild,
Big Bad. Because the scene in the Olympic opening ceremonies where a flock of Mary Poppinses defeated Voldemort was pretty much a crackfic already. This makes it even crackier and even funnier.

rymenhild,
Bigger Than You Think. HOLY COW THIS IS BRILLIANT. The blurb says that it's inspired by XKCD's Click and Drag, as well as Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, but it also reminded me a little of Catherynne Valente in the way the stories interlink. It almost doesn't matter what inspired it, because it is brilliant on its own. It's a choose-your-own adventure game in an enormous, rich, interactively linked world.

orichalcum,
The Importance of Being Mostly Human, Discworld. Young Sam becomes a student at Susan's school, and what happens next is funny, sweet, and note-perfect in Pratchett's style - especially in the way it will grab your emotions with unexpected strength.
The Frost Fair, Tangled. Adorably fluffy, with a good Flynn-voice and Rapunzel-reactions.
The Greatest Good, The Incredibles. Finally, a Helen/Elastigirl POV! It feels very authentic in its family relationships, emotional arcs, and vision of the world that the characters live in.
The Unpaid Overtime Complication, Middleman. Wendy and Ida have to team up, and hilarity, of course, ensues. "Since Wendy lived in a work filled with both comic-book evil and dramatic irony, it was then that the stun grenade went off."
The Mirrorverse Doppelganger Visitation. Another Middleman. Mirrorverse Lacey visits, and, again, hilarity ensues. I love both Mirrorverse Lacey and Realverse Tyler in this one.
Things I'm Learning About You, The Unusuals. Lots of Unusuals stories this year! This one had the best banter of the bunch
Any more recs? I'm sure there are some great stories that I've missed...
