Damn. I should not have read this after freshly applying mascara. This hit my hard - very hard.

You really captured the essence of what how I imagine that conversation going.

He supposed it was one of the things that drew him to Sirius, that they've had a similar past, growing up in homes without love and finding their real families at Hogwarts. He could really understand how Sirius hated to be locked up in his childhood home, having to listen to Kreacher's insults and the screams from his mother's portrait.
That is so true. One of the things I loved most about OotP was that, at his most angsty, Harry had Sirius who actually understood him and his emotions. Sirius was a true mentor in that respect, he allowed Harry to see the real him and that is important.

But Remus explaining their relationship to Harry just broke my heart.
