Sometimes people disappoint me...

If there's one thing I've learned in this life, it's that there is balance. For every yin, there most certainly is a yang, and it may not be obvious at the time, but life has a way of balancing out ( Read more... )

I'm actually really glad that you wrote something about this. I've been thinking a lot about the lack of compassion in the world today myself. People are so rude to each other! For some reason, I notice it more with things like how people tend to treat their waiters and waitresses. AWFUL! It seems that people don't extend those simple courtesies that would be so easy, yet mean so much. It sickens me, too. Really, it does. I wish we could all just be considerate and nice to each other. One of my pet peeves is people being rude, or disrepectful to others without any reason, or cause. Bah!

In short, I'm right there with you (as always), MT.

Right on! I always thank the people in the drive thrus, too. A lot of people laugh at me for that, but I think that it can brighten someone's day if they get a nice customer. There's so much hate and hurt in the world, why add more?

I feel more like a dying breed every day. I don't know what else to do to change things, though. I've never been a trend setter. All I can do is keep on truckin'.

Working with kids, I teach them the right things to do, we talk about manners and politeness constantly. I can tell that some of them just don't care anymore. Half the class hates the fact that I let the girls line up first...and when I say that's what gentleman does, a response I heard the other day was, "Who cares about being a gentleman...my daddy goes in front of my mommy all the time and she don't care."

Ah yes, the young ones. They are where our future lies, and if more people cared about that, perhaps we wouldn't be in the predicament we are now.

We sit perched precariously and it's like people forgot the basic principles of right and wrong. I think people now only care about what's right for them, and sometimes, that's not always the "right" choice.

I am never going to give up on the human race. Never. I think we all have goodness in us, even those that most people have lost all hope for... but that's another can of worms. :o)

i had given up hope until this summer. I witnessed, first hand, the innate goodness of hundreds, perhaps thousands of people. It was amazing not only to see the selfless acts of 20 (and then 40) other people I was surrounded by, but to see the people who poured out their hearts and homes for us along the way. I have a renewed faith in my fellow man, and I will always think back to this summer to keep that alive.

Yeah, your experience is definitely one to remember and cherish. I just wish that selflessness wasn't so rare an occurance. Did you take a writing journal to chronicle your experiences? It would be neat to go back and read that from time to time and remember.
