Happy Holidays to all...

Dec 27, 2007 16:18

My youngest brother and his family are coming up this Friday so we have yet to see them. My sister's grandkids were in rare form, from Madison (the oldest, 10) being in charge of the ( Read more... )

Nice to hear from you dear lady.
Reading about Ken got me emotional. what an ordeal you've been (and continue) to go through. But good news about his folks coming to visit.

Be good!

Ken's plight is sad... in a rest home at 50 is not anything I wish on my worst enemy. I was glad to see his folks visit. In a year and a half his Dad has been 3 times and it was the first time for his Mom. His Mom's dementia is getting worse so his Dad has his hands full for sure! I am looking forward to a new year of great strides in my wellness plan (mentally and physically). Take care my friend... Is Bella doing OK now? I was worried when you said she was ill. HUGZ

I'm all confused. Who is Ken and why is he in a home?
I'm sorry if that's a bad question but I guess I don't know you well enough to not ask indiscreet questions yet.

To be honest I am glad to see 2007 go and hoping 2008 will be a much less stressful year!

And a huge AMEN! of agreement to that!

(((HUGS)))and a much better year ahead!

Ask away silly lady! Ken is my boyfriend. He got sick a little over a year after we got together (about 4 years ago)and has had a downhill slide from there. I took care of him at home until it became impossible to do so any longer and that left only one choice, to have him stay in a "Skilled Nursing Facility", although how "skilled" they are leaves to be seen! I took care of my husband for most of our 13 year marriage (until his death 6 and a half years ago), and had hoped for someone healthy... doesn't seem to be in the cards for me. Feel free to ask anything else you want to know... Hugz

I'm sorry.
What does he have?

It must be beyond hard, Cathe.

He had Necrotizing Faciitis, it is that flesh eating bacteria from a small boil on his thigh that popped inward. He had no insurance so he wanted to wait out the weekend and go see the Doctor on Monday so he wouldn't have to go to the Emergency Room. Over the weekend his thigh got red and he felt like he had the flu, fever, chills, all over body ache. By the time I got him to the doctor Monday he was out of it could barely walk and his thigh had started to turn black. Seven nights and seven surgeries later he was in intensive care on a respirator and not expected to live the night. Two months of hospitalization and a couple more surgeries later they sent him home to me (we had been living together at the time) with a note to go to the county clinic for indegent people and good luck. I had a wheel chair from my husband and a few other pieces of medical equipment he could use but there was no follow up. We went to the clinic a couple of times and they didn't do anything. Two years later he got the infection again. Back to the hospital ( ... )

Yes I am in my new home. I am still nesting and hopefully will have pictures next week. I am hoping for a surgery date in January. I had 3 different doctors to see and a bunch of tests to be run before I could get a final surgery date. It is all done now so, we can get on with it. I am looking forward to 2008 as a year of change for the better :)HUGZ
