What is your philosphy on life? What do you believe makes you, you? Do you follow one of the established philsophies; empiricism, rationalism, stoicism, nihilism, existentialism, etc? Do you believe that modern and post modern philosophy have an effect on our society today, on a personal level, and on a world wide level? Have the tenants of ( Read more... )

ALthough I don't believe in the mumbojumbo BS of classic sarte-ian existentialism, I do very firmly believe that what you do = who you are. If you aren't happy with who you are, change what you do to reflect who you want to be, and you will be that.

I've found this attitude to be phenomenally successful so far.

Okay- I do not ascribe to any particular philosophic system. However, as I grow and change as a person, I find that certain peices of music, certain poems, and novels weave inspiration for what I am going through in life. Sometimes I read or hear something at utterly the perfect moment, and it comes to represent and encapsulate that time period for me.
My actual philosophy on life is that one must actively participate in it. If you do not participate in your life you are not living. Wounds do not heal unless you personally bandage them, you will not grow unless you feed and water yourself, you will not dance if you cannot make the music (or at least turn up the volume).

First of all, thank you for responding. I had a very in depth discussion with Gary tonight about this, and he was also helpful. I find Skennedy, that I agree with your assessment, but I also find that it's hard for me to put into practice. And that it's hard for a lot of people to view the world and themselves in such a manner as to be able to change like that.

And I also agree with SK in that you must actively participate and live in your life. I was writing earlier on the difference in my opinion of being and existing. To exist you breathe, eat and sleep, but to be, you must first become aware and fully conscious within yourself, and then take that consciousness and live. To effect change, one must live and be self aware of what needs to change.

I appreciate your feedback very much.
