When I was a teenager, the big 3 of popular music were Elton John, John Denver, and Jim Croce. They had the big hits on the charts. As it turns out, the one of the 3 who made many suicide attempts is still alive while the other 2 died in plane crashes. John Denver's career was pretty much over when he died in the late 90's, but Jim Croce was just peaking and you knew what a shame it was when that happened in 1973.
