Americans considered the US plural too until the Civil War.

I know. I just figured the entry was too long to include that explanation as well.

Wow... sounds like a lot has happened.

>>Talking about where I come from, I say "Texas" they say "Houston." Then the fun part. How do you explain 200 miles north of Houston? Four hours away? But then how do you describe going 70 miles an hour? I am fast memorizing that .62 km = 1 mi.
Man that is odd... I never thought houston was that well known for some reason...

>>It is very pretty, but Misuzu says that it is even prettier in Japan.
SO fall is in full swing there? Must be nice.

No. Why would it be well known? It's only the fourth largest city in the US.

Do you want me to see if I can get it and bring it next week? I fly into Stuttgart so we could work a handoff and the beginning or I could bring it at the end.

Welcome to the world of living abroad - for me it's preety easy to speak of Texas locations in terms of hours - austin is 1.5 from san an, C.S. is 1.5 from Houston...you get the idea.
In Spanish USA is los Estados Unidos, plural, and the short form is EEUU - two cause it's plural, though I have seen - EUA Estados Unidos de America. The real great thing is that Mexico is really made up of a lot of little states, which most people don't consider. They call themselves the United States of Mexico but don't pluralize anything - they just refer to themselves as Mexico, mostly.
On the books thing...at least you have books. Here they are crazy about copies, which is a constant money drain.
