Jack Ass is clearly not from around here and clearly not middle class or lower.
I'm very fortunate that my dad makes $100K a year + benefits and my parents have enough saved to support me if I don't get a job immediately on graduation. But he works hard for that money. He does the work of about 4 people and works 60+ hours a week, not including an hour commute each way.
So many of my friends are in the same boat as you. Several have had to drop out of college to support themselves, and many are working 2 or more jobs. One is working 5, because each one can only afford to pay her for 10 hours a week! It's extrememly difficult to get hired as a full time employee in Michigan too, because that requires benefits.
JFC I couldn't imagine 5 jobs. Is she anywhere near Southfield? Last I knew, we were looking for aides. Its not much, but its at *least* 15hrs/wk, guarranteed.
My dad is *always* working. He's an IT pro, and he is NEVER not working. Even when he's on "vacation" he is on call. It is ridiculous.
And OH GOD yes, its so hard to get hired as a FT employee. We've had a bunch of people retire at the Library (and the City) and they won't be re-hiring anyone. It's "not in the budget". Nevermind that they could afford to pay all those people to begin with.
I envy that your parents can help you out. When my parents *should* have been saving, they were unable to, b/c every cent was going to keeping a roof over our heads and clothes on our back.
So yeah.
This almost turned into a major rant, LOL. But I'd be preaching to the choir, so yeah.

The only time my dad hasn't been on call on vacation was when he was out of country on a cruise.
