Makeup Tutorial ~ 3rd degree burns

Feb 25, 2010 15:30

So, for A-kon, my friends and I are doing a Baccano! group. I'm cosplaying Nice Holystone (She's the chick in that picture). She has 3rd degree burn scars on her face and arms. I decided to practice.

The two guinea-pigs here are my friend Jaki and myself. (Jaki's probably looks better cuz I did hers and she did mine, and I have more experience with this.) Please note--we both shaved our arms with this, as liquid latex + hair = PAIN.

1. Coat the area of the "burn" in liquid latex.
2. Take one sheet of toilet paper, and rip it in half. make sure to rip the edges some so its not nice and straight and even.
3. Lay the toilet paper down on the latex.

Note--BE SURE to avoid the eye and eyebrow. The eyepatch will cover it on mine, so I didn't bother, but if you are doing a costume where the eye will show, use MAKEUP ONLY to do the eye/eyebrow area, don't get latex near your eye. (And latex in the eyebrow = missing eyebrow when you take the makeup off.)

4. Use a light red color and go over it all.

5. Go over THAT with a dark red color. You can also use some black to get more depth if you need it.

If you're doing fresh burns, stop there. If you're doing healed burns....

6. Go over all of it with your normal skin foundation. Do it lightly so that the reds still show through.

Here's a comparison between what the latex burns look like and what a makeup-only burn looks like (we ran out of latex. >.>)

Finished makeup: (NOTE: The wig and eyepatch are made of fail. I know this and will be getting better ones for the costume. I also have a better shirt than that. I just threw on what I had handy so it would look vaguely similar to the character. Also, we ran out of latex before we did my right arm.)

ETA: YES I KNOW I DID THE WRONG SIDE. MY BAD. TOO MUCH PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
