I'd been noticing a bit of a high pitched whirr from the engine yesterday, knew the fan belt was wearing thin, and was thinking about taking it in to a mechanic soonish... Turns out soonish is nowish. It made this lovely kurchunk gasnick scccrrrrrr noise, and then there was smoke. I managed to pull over, call a tow truck, and persuade my mother

Good luck on your car, my car is making a similar noise, but when it was at the mechanics they said they couldn't recreate it and all the belts are fine. It's probably going to explode.

That is too bad on Jacqueline Carey, that would have been a fun reading to go to.
