Clark opened the door to the penthouse and entered quietly. He was home early, and it might be Kon's naptime. He wasn't sure. He did know, however, that Lex had sent their nanny home and was taking the day off because this second pregnancy was making him very tired and stressed. Thus, Clark had taken off early and brought home dinner from one of Lex's favorite places.

After dropping off the ornate take out bag in the kitchen, Clark ventured out, using his hearing to locate his husband and their little two-year-old, who was babbling happily. Awake, certainly, and playing with his daddy. Kon was one of the sweetest children that Clark had ever had the pleasure of knowing.

"Batty batty batty!" Kon said cheerfully.

"Yeah?" Lex laughed. "Is that so?"

Clark chuckled and headed for Kon's playroom. When he arrived, he stayed in the doorway for a moment, watching Lex hold their boy, smiling and rosy-cheeked. Tired or no, Clark loved the way Lex looked when he was pregnant, like he was lit up on the inside from a miniature sun. Kon continued to play, oblivious, and no doubt just happy to have his daddy around all day.

Lex turned his head, and his eyes registered first surprise, then affection. He waved Clark over, and Clark came, kneeling behind them and putting his arms around Lex.

"Papa!" Kon exclaimed.

"Hey there, big guy!" Clark dropped a kiss on the toddler's head. Then he froze in shock.

Kon was holding a little Batman doll.

"Where did he get that?" Clark asked.

Lex's eyes creased in amusement. "Dick sent it over."

"Did he." Clark looked down at his son, quite nonplussed, as the boy bounced the Batdoll up and down and started to sing a little song about bats.

"He loves this thing," Lex said, watching Kon with amazement. "He's been playing with it all day."

Clark looked over to Kon's shelf, where the Superman doll lay lonely and untouched. "Huh. You think it has anything to do with liking Bruce? I've never seen Bruce interact with him much when he and Chloe are over."

"I don't think so. I think Kon's scared of Bruce."

"Wonder why."

"Oh, be nice. He's just…"

"Bruce."

"Yes." Lex laid his head back on Clark's chest and made an uncomfortable noise.

"Oh. You okay?" Clark reached down and rubbed Lex's softly rounded belly.

Lex blew air out of his lips.

"Now that you're here." He flashed Clark a smile and stretched his head back to give Clark an awkward sideways kiss. Clark had to chuckle.

"C'mon. You must be getting hungry," Clark declared. He moved back and then lifted Lex to his feet easily.

"I'll give it a go," Lex promised.

Kon started to make distressed sounds, flailing his arms in front of him.

"Oh, no. What is it, Kon?" Lex turned his head back to their boy.

"He dropped his bat," Clark said with a sigh. He let Lex go, picked up the toy, and gave it to Kon. Then he pet Kon's dark hair and gave him a kiss. "There you go, buddy. Your friend is safe."

"Batty!"

"Yep. He's batty alright!"

Lex shook with laughter, and Clark moved back to put his arms around Lex as they headed for the kitchen. He couldn't say that he wasn't a little jealous, not even after all these years, and Lex was not only his, but had given him a son, and would in roughly five months be giving him a pair of daughters. Not even after Bruce had finally found himself someone enough like Lex to keep his attention but enough not like Lex that they could actually stay together without killing one another.

It was childish, but he wanted to toss that toy off the balcony. But he couldn't do that, because the force behind it could leave a Batdoll shaped hole in someone. And Kon would probably cry.

When Lex made another uncomfortable noise, Clark broke out of his self-indulgent inner whining and looked on Lex's face with concern.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm fine. It's been awhile, but surely you remember there are some not so delightful days involved in pregnancy. I knew that when I suggested we have another child."

Clark kissed his cheek. "But I wanted it."

"I could sense how much you wanted it. I was just waiting until I felt ready to try it again." Lex looked at Kon. "Admittedly, he helped."

"Helped you be ready? By somehow bypassing his terrible twos and persisting on being the sweetest kid in the world?"

"I think he needs siblings. I know you missed out because your mother couldn't have them, and your parents didn't want to risk adopting another," Lex explained. "I always wanted siblings."

Clark smiled softly. "Yeah, I guess we both wanted that. You're a pretty great dad, to put up with all this just so he can have someone to play with."

"Oof." Lex set Kon in his high chair and settled him in with the doll. He caressed the boy's cheek. "It's not just so he has someone to play with. You hungry, Kon?"

Kon blinked up at him, then shook his head.

"Hm." Lex crooked his mouth to the side and put his hand on his stomach. "I'm not sure I believe you."

"Don't worry about that, Lex. Let me feed him; you go eat!" Clark encouraged. Really, if Clark weren't around, he wasn't sure Lex would properly take care of himself.

"I'm fine, Clark. I don't know why you insist on being overdramatic." Still, Lex did get out some plates and began dishing up the food. He grabbed a bottle of water and set himself to dinner while Clark tried to ply Kon with some chicken fingers.

"I love you, and I don't like seeing you so tired."

"Well, maybe you shouldn't have put twins in me," Lex replied.

Clark turned his head to protest, but saw the smirk on Lex's face and shook his head. "I couldn't help it. You're going to look so cute, all big with twins."

"Wicked," Lex accused.

When dinner was over, there was a little time before they needed to put Kon to bed, so they set up in the family room and put on Kon's Mr. Mxyzptlk dvd. Kon, however, seemed a little too interested in playing with his Batdoll to pay attention to the colorful bouncing on the screen. Clark sighed and kissed the side of Lex's head as he excused himself.

A few minutes later he returned with the Superman doll and crouched down beside Kon.

"Hey there, Batman," Clark said, wiggling the doll in front of Kon. The boy stared at him blankly. "Yeah! Let's go save people!"

Lex covered his mouth as Kon hugged his Batdoll and looked confused. Clark sighed and set the doll to the side, then got up to join Lex.

"Noble effort," Lex told him, mussing Clark's hair.

"I guess," Clark replied. He leaned back and pulled Lex closer so he would put his head on Clark's shoulder. Within a few minutes, Lex was dozing. Clark stroked his cheek gently, happy to have this time with his family, regardless of intrusions from the bat clan.

When Kon picked up the Superman doll, Clark looked up sharply. His son rose to his feet and toddled over to them. He set the Superman doll between Lex's legs, steadying it so it would stand firmly, fists against its hips, and guard Lex's tummy.

Clark bit his lip and wished he had a camera, because that was perhaps the cutest thing that he'd ever seen. He waved Kon over. The boy grabbed his Batdoll and hurried to his papa's side. Clark lifted him up and set him on his lap.

"We love you, Konnie."

"Love you, Papa," Kon said. "Daddy's safe."

"Yes, Daddy is safe," Clark agreed solemnly. He touched Lex's belly. "Here. Here's where your sisters are, and Superman keeps them safe, too."

Kon nodded. "Yesh, Daddy told me."

"Yep." Clark gave the boy another kiss and smiled when Kon leaned over to touch Lex's belly. As Kon hugged Lex gently, the Superman doll wobbled and fell over.

"Oh no," Kon said.

"It's okay. Superman is still looking out for them," Clark assured Kon.

Kon nodded. Lex stirred a little and looked over at them. "What's going on?"

"You fell asleep, sleepy daddy," Clark informed him, caressing the side of his head.

Kon giggled. "Sleepy!"

"Hm. Isn't it about time we put our little Batfan to bed?" Lex suggested, blinking his eyes groggily.

Kon shook his head. Clark laughed and lifted Kon up as he stood. "I can put him down."

"No, I want to come." Lex pushed himself up and walked along side them upstairs to their bedrooms.

Gently, Clark laid Kon down in his bed, and Lex fetched Kon's pajamas. Once he was ready, the two of him stayed on either side, as Lex regaled the boy with a story, then another, until Kon looked sleepy. Clark rubbed his son's back and watched him snuggle up with the Batdoll until he dozed off.

Lex lingered a few moments more before standing and leaving Kon's bedroom with Clark, who slipped his arm around Lex's back and kissed his temple and neck repeatedly.

"You seem frisky," Lex commented.

"I don't know that frisky is the word." Clark scooped Lex up and took him the few feet to their bed, where he laid Lex down and hopped on the bed beside him. "I'm just glad to be with you."

His hand slipped under Lex's soft blue sweater and caressed his belly.

"All of you." Clark kissed Lex's forehead and pulled him close. "What can I do to make you feel better?"

"I think I just need to get some sleep. Get my reserves back up," Lex told Clark, petting the back of his hair.

"Maybe." Clark sat up and went to the dresser. "Don't get up."

"Hadn't planned on it."

Clark smiled and returned with some soft pajamas. They undressed Lex in the bed, and Clark got Lex comfortable before zipping away and returning with the Superman doll.

"Our little Batfan wanted you to have this. To protect you and the girls," Clark told him.

Lex grinned and took the doll. "Aw. Well, this is a doll, but I have the real thing to cuddle."

"That you do." Clark kicked off his shoes and discarded his clothing, then slipped under the covers, snuggling deeply under with Lex, and rubbing his back until Lex fell asleep once again in his arms. Occasionally, Clark would look up and peer into Kon's room to see their son cuddled tightly with the Batman doll. He supposed that he could deny neither his husband nor his son the right to a good snuggle. Even if it was with a bat.
