I'm wearing earplugs. The kind you roll between your fingers, put in your ear, and they expand to fit. And I can STILL hear the goddamn party next door ( Read more... )

The expiration date on condoms is usually more like 5-8 years after manufacture. That one's been sitting around for a while.
Give it to a friend. Condoms are expensive, but necessary, and I'm sure you know someone with a use for it.

I didn't think this one could be that old, because it's a kind they've just started advrtising. The Elexa. Designed by women for women. I har the ads all over the place for condoms.

I hadn't thought of how expensive they could be. Even though I have gotten them for frinds before, I guess I wasn't thinking. I guess I will pass it on. Danke.

You know, I am trying to think of the last time that I saw an ad for a condom. And I don't remember when that was.

Hrm.... "Designed for women by women". But women don't have penises.... well, faminists might, but they don't count.

I called that number once and they told me to call 955-1818 instead... specifically for noise complaints

You could... *gasp*... go and talk to them to ask them to keep it down. Of course, that also depends on the amount of people at the party. Also gives you a chance to meet your neighbors. :)

Actually, you could talk to them today and let them know they kept you up. then it will be fair warning. I know I'd much rather have a neighbor talk to me than call the police.

I don't care to meet them, and I would be uncomfortable trying to talk to them. They throw PARTIES. We have BIG backyards in the student ghetto. Theirs tends to be packd. One certain game days, the party has overflowed into my yard (I think one of my tennants may have let them since I think they're buddies). And they do this constantly during the school year. On school nights. If they don't realize how loud they're getting, they're getting drunk too early.

But because I'm not willing to talk to them is why I won't call anyone on them unless I have something important the next day. I may at some point leave an anonymous message in their mailbox or something. But I'm just really uncomfortable trying to directly talk to them. I know that's what I should do, but I just can't.

...if you go meet them, maybe you can have fun at one of their parties. :) If you can't beat them, join them?

I'd hate if they were on my lawn, though.

As you can see, G. and I have different approaches to this problem. While they are approaching the problem from opposite ends of the spectrum, they are compatible. It all depends on what your choice happens to be.

The thing to remember here is that if you take the approach of "can't beat 'em, join 'em", you are actually bolstering their attitudes. This isn't necessarily wrong, but it can backfire.

Ya know, those foamie earplugs are not designed to completely remove the noise. You need noise cancellation stuff for that. Foam earplugs are designed to reduce noise, not eliminate it. They effectively reduce noise by about 30dB. Unfortunately, for a party like you are talking about, the noise is not white noise unless you have managed to tune yourself for that sort of thing, so it will still be bothersome, just not as loud.

*Sigh* At least they reduce it some.

Hrm. Damn. I don't really want anyone to get in trouble. Just a warning from officials so they'll keep it quieter. Or at least non-school nights.

Actually, the way it works is the first one is a warning. If it happens again within a certain time period, fines occur.

Remember, they have agreed to live there and follow the rules of the area just like you have. If they choose not to follow those rules, they also have to pay the consequences, or they can move to somewhere that those rules no longer apply.

You came to that area to live under those rules because those rules are what you want in order to create a peaceful environment.

How do I know if they're loud enough to be breaking any rules?
