Actually, comparing it to an epidural is pretty accurate...IF you are arguing AGAINST circumcision. Epidurals carry the risks you mentioned, along with long-term nerve damage, death, shock and various other problems TO THE BABY as secondary to the problems caused to the mother. Not to mention having an epi raises your risk of a c-section exponentially, a surgery that carries a 5 times greater risk of death to the neonate AND the mother. Honestly, Epidurals are about as likely to cause lasting harm in a serious manner as a circ. That said, if all goes well, you have a point, most of the time epidural oopsies do not have life-long consequences. A circumcision absolutely does. But seriously, if I hd been there and she made a comment like that, I'da taken her to the CLEANERS with it. :)
