Oh dear. This is hard. I don't know what I will do if I have to choose between Lois and Clark. I love them both to bits and pieces. Clark looses some marks for the AOS and Season 6/7 though but still he's all kinds of awesome
( ... )
Yeah, the choice is insanely hard. But I had to pick Lois, not only has there rarely (if ever) been an AOS-type situation for her where I've struggled to even look at her (even though I completely understand emotionally where Clark was at that point and I don't judge him for it but that'll come later in this meme methinks) but I actually think out of everyone she has the better character arc. Ugh, Clark in season six and seven. Ugh, writers.
See, I've gotten frustrated with recent episodes, mainly this season in that I feel that Lois' independent journalist identity can be overshadowed by her relationship with Clark. And she's so much more than that. There's heroism in supporting your man for sure... it's just.... I worry with this show and they might not turn her into a trophy wife but they've been guilty of softening her up in ways I fail to comprehend/making her 'all about Clark' a few times, imo. *added brief thoughts on this to the entry since it needed to be said.
I get your concern. I've seen several other fans complain about the same thing. However, the way I see it, I don't think they've overdone Lois's emotional side. She has softened, yes, but I've always found it extremely endearing that the tough brat Lois met the woman in her when she met the man who truly stole her heart. I've no problem with Lois shedding a tear or two, or when she's emotionally vulnerable or Clark becomes her number one priority, because Clark does the same for her, he should do the same for her. He's the biggest super hero, the most powerful being on Earth, yet his love for Lois makes him vulnerable at times, and that's okay (That's one of the big reasons why many bitchy fanboys don't think super heroes should have girlfriends or wives
( ... )
The reason why people prefer Chloe or Lana over Lois is this, that they'll turn into trophy-wives, become victims, blame the hero, bottom line, they are 'his' liability and hence in a way their lives revolve around the hero, depends on the hero. Lois isn't all that. She's a character in her own right. She supports the hero. She is his strength, but she doesn't need to be looked after. She doesn't blame him for her problems and doesn't add to the list of things that he needs to look after. Her independence is probably the reason why she's hated by many. People think there's no place for a heroine like her in this story because they don't need a character that stands side by side with the hero.
Yes, yes, yes!!! This paragraph is absolutely perfect. People prefer Lana and Chloe because they know when to fall back. Lois doesn't fall back for anybody.
Maggs, this is so beautiful and I agree with every single word you said.
Although, to be honest, if I was forced to choose...I'd have to put Clark first because he's my heart and soul with Smallville. But, I truly do love Lois just as much. She is so amazing.
I love your choice of pictures and I really love what you said about following Lois' journey through the years. You are right. Her transformation is so real and gradual and it's so cool to watch. Lois has always been "Lois" in terms of her personality. The minute she showed up, I was like, "Oh yeah...that's Lois." LOL But it's taken some time for her to truly mature and go about her journey just like Clark. They've both been moving towards who they are supposed to be and it's so beautiful to me that the closer they both got to the people they were supposed to be the closer they got each other.:)
This post is made of Awesome!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I absolutely love Lois Joanne Lane and I love Erica Durance. I love Clark too, but Lois is my number one. She's the reason I started watching Smallville. I remember seeing the Crusade trailer. "Who are you?" "Lois, Lois Lane." I was hooked every since. I love that Lois has flaws and that they are acknowledged. Everytime I think of Lois and flaws I think of the Stiletto episode, which I felt was an episode that showed Lois's flaws and they were acknowledged by the characters but then she says, you know what I messed up. I'm sorry. I've learned. Let's move on.
I enjoy reading and seeing moments when Lois and Erica are given praise. It warms my heart because I think of when I started to get into on-line fandom and all the hate that was thrown around. It feels really good to see Lois grow as a character and see her travel into her iconic status.
For me it's a tie between Chloe and Lois. And I like Oliver and Tess very much too. I'm a weirdo, so I don't like Clark that much anymore, I used to love him in the earlier seasons, but now I just like him when he's with Lois.
I love the everything about Lois, I love her attitude and I lover her flaws. And she always has the best lines on the show.

The hate in online fandom is awful, for every character, I just - ugh. But it's been a great journey, hasn't it?!
