I feel so bad for Eragon fans right now...

Ok. I thought it was bad when Hollywood made average movies for my Harry Potter books. I saw Eragon this weekend.

First off, why Twentieth Century Fox, Mr. Christopher Paolini? Why!? They couldn't do a decent book adaption if their pathetic company's life depended on it.

Before I go into the bad I will mention the good:

1. John Malcovich as bad guy - brillant
2. Red Haired chick was awesome. :)
3. Scar from the Lion King was the mentor. That was kinda neat.
4. Special Effects were very well done.
5. Baby Dragon = OMFG SO CUTE!!!!! <--I would so put up with this movie again to see that adorable dragon! When it caught the mouse and then cuddled with blondy I squeed.

The thing I don't know about:

The big ending song is by Avril Lavigne. hmm. Don't get me wrong I love Avril but?

Ok, now with the bad:
1. Main actor was horrible. I'm sorry but he only had one face expression = constipated. Ugh. The character is apparently suppose to go through a transformation of character. From naive farm boy to warrior. Did not see it. Like I said, I saw many versions of the same constipated look. This hurt the movie so much because everything depended on him.

2. The Film editing sucked like bad. The first couple minutes of the movie I thought I was watching something that was made by Sci-Fi. Ugh. I also felt that the scenes were too choppy. Plus , was it just me or did the important parts i.e. Eragon's relationship with the dragon and the big battle move to fast? I didn't see any character development whatsoever!

3. Ok please don't yell at me for this one. I haven't read the books so this opinion is based on the movie. Please don't kill me.

The worst part of this movie is that during the whole time I was watching it, it felt like the entire story was the combination of four elements: The Best parts of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings with a dash of Harry Potter and pinch of dragons for flavor. I mean seriously. Every minute of the movie I looked at Chris and said things like: "Ooo, this is where Luke is leaving the moister farm!". I mean come on! The fight where blondy saves the red haired girl was sooooo Empire Strikes Back! The sith (I mean red haired bad guy), was throwing things at Luke (I mean blondy haired dragon rider). I was so expecting blondy's hand to get cut off! It was sooo predictable.

Now I realize nothing is original. Star Wars was a montage of so much other stuff. But in Star Wars's case, George Lucas took ideas from other people and placed his own world on top of them. Now I don't know it if this is the screenwriters fault or not, but in the movie it looked like Christopher Paolini took exact scenes from Star Wars and put the Lord of the Rings world on top of it. Yeah it has dragons and more magic, so what, it WAS the Lord of the Rings world.

Update: I read more on the actual book and it looks like it was the screenwriters fault.

That had to be the worst 7 bucks that I've spent in a while. But I was with a group of friends so that made it worth it. It's always fun to watch sucky movies with friends.

I feel really bad for Eragon fans right now. I heard from Chris that in the Boston area this one 11 year old fan ran out of the theater crying because the movie was so bad. :( That has to suck.

On a final note:
Why Twentieth Century Fox, Christopher Paolini? Why?

Ripter here on lj was telling my snipits of his review which should be posted sometime today. Everyone should read it!
