I couldn't have the operation today as there were no beds, so I'm to go back at 10am tomorrow and hopefully they can do it then. The doctor said that I could go home tomorrow evening but I am to go back at 10an the next morning to be checked. They don't want to keep me in as there's a bed shortage, but I really don't want to be home on my own ( Read more... )

They tell you to spend 50 minutes out of every hour lying on your front ... but they intend to send you home alone the same day after the op and have you come back in the following morning? What do they expect you to do, lie on the floor of the bus? ::headdesk:: I hope you are able to persuade them to keep you in for the night, it'll be one less hassle.

But no reading for 3 weeks (and no tv/computer screen for the first 5 days) sounds like purgatory to me, I'm so so sorry! Music, lots of music is all I can think of. And talking on the phone. Maybe you could play the tracks from your favourite vids, and "see" them in your mind's eye at least!

I'm hugely sorry, it sounds bloody horrible. ::sends huge lorry-load of hugs, extra-fluffy, ladyhawke2, for the use of::

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this - what a nightmarish mess. Obviously, the thing to do is to get through the operation and save your sight, but the five days after do sound awful. If you have a walkman or discman, this is definitely the time to dig them out and to get some batteries on the way in tomorrow. I wish I could think of something more constructive to offer.

Appendages remain crossed for you. Hugs.

This does sound tough, I'm really sorry to hear about it. Hopefully you have lots of music and a radio you can listen while there's no reading or screens allowed. It sounds like time for talking books and podfic too. Everything crossed it all goes smoothly and yes I'm with heliophile about staying in overnight after the op if you possibly can.

I have to say I'm with helio on this - lying on your front for 50 mins per hour and yet they're expecting you to travel home and return? Does not compute, as they say... Fingers crossed that you can wangle a bed for the night, that seems to be far and away the most logical course of action given their recommended recovery strategy.

As to the no reading or watching TV - ack, sounds horrible! *sends zen hugs* perhaps you could ask your daughter to pick up some story CDs for you? Or radio dramatisations? At least that way you have a change from music while you're lying on your tum.

Bugger. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Do you have e-books and music to listen to? I hope it all goes well for you.
