Livejournal: The Revival

Aug 21, 2019 04:19

I haven't posted regularly on LJ since 2011. Returned for a couple months in 2015, but other than that, I've treated this site like it doesn't exist.

Why?

Because everyone else has.

That's the real reason, as much as it pains me to admit it. I didn't want to stop posting. I sure as hell didn't want to replace LJ with Facebook or any other ( Read more... )

So much the same here. In fact, I could have written almost every word you've said myself. I did get diverted by Facebook for a while but I never had anything but complaints about that cruddy site, and I only went there because everyone else had gone before me and I'd gone for months-on-end on LiveJournal without any interaction at all. I'm not here to talk to the wall! I could never understand why almost everyone seemed to think FB was so much better than LiveJournal. I think most people are just sheep who follow the herd at all costs, and are incapable of recognising a good thing when they see it. Still, it might not be too late. The penny might eventually drop as to how very inferior the likes of Facebook and Instragram are to LiveJournal.

Thank you for adding me, BTW. I look forward to seeing your posts and comments!

Man, I hate damn near everything about Facebook. Not only does it discourage you from writing at length, but it doesn't cater toward ANY form of creative expression. Granted, MySpace had issues too, but at least they let you design your own profile, have blogs, that sort of thing. Facebook? Same generic design for everyone. Can't even use basic formatting in your posts like bold or italics ( ... )

Again, I agree with everything you've said, and I've made exactly the same complaints about Facebook myself many times. After I set up an account on that fucking abysmal site, I found that I rapidly fell into 'Facebook mode' and lost the ability to write in the way that I was accustomed to doing on LiveJournal. I began posting trite, throwaway comments. I seemed to lose my powers of concentration too, and on those rare occasions when others posted more than a couple of sentences at-a-time, I couldn't be bothered to read them. It really does shrink the brain! And there's so much mindlessly copied-and-pasted garbage, and adverts and political propaganda masquerading as genuine posts that can't be got rid of. I also hate the way it ensnares people and makes it almost impossible to leave. In theory, it's possible to download all your content if you intend to close your account, but when I did that, all my photos were mixed up, detached from their captions, and were of smaller size and much lower resolution than I'd uploaded them at. Facebook, the destroyer of attention spans. You're absolutely right about that ( ... )
