Nov 02, 2019 00:43

So my first day of NaNoWriMo went really well. Submitted my word count right before midnight, and I clocked in at 4913. That's impressive, especially since I'm woefully out of practice. I rarely hit 4-5k targets before the middle/end of November when I'm fully in the zone ( Read more... )

You did such a great job yesterday! I'm so impressed with my writing friends right now - so many of you are at/around/past 5k already!

I'm aways impressed with everyone doing nano! I can't write in a creative way at all. 2017 was wow! What happens once you finish nano? Do you actually make a cover and print it out for yourself?

What happens when you win Nano depends on the project/your overall goals, really. I will say that you don't come out of this with a finished work, though. It's a rough draft at best, something that needs LOTS of editing after November is over. That's inevitable when you write this fast… the goal is to get the words out, no time to give them any sort of polish.

Some people print out their work, I'm sure. Others might self publish or pursue traditional publishing, and there are plenty more who take months or even years to get around to the editing process, leaving their work to gather dust.

Me? I write fanfiction, so my work ends up posted online. I'm sure that will change if I ever buckle down and work on something original, but for now, I'm happy with what I produce. Can't earn a dime off it, but it sure is fun. :)
