Much done...but still lots to do

I got quite a bit accomplished this weekend.  My tunica is nearly finished.  I just need to hem the neckline and attach the trim for the clavii.  All of the seams have been protected and its sleeves and bottom is hemmed.  My dalmatica is almost constructed.  I just need to sew the side seams together and then start protecting the seams.

And then, ( Read more... )

you're going to embroider a byzantine collar and cuffs between now and coronation? i applaud your ambition. :)

on the weight loss/eating out thing: i so very much relate to that. i am trying (with some success) to shift my perspective of what it is i'm paying for when i go out - i.e. usually, i'm not going out to get food, i'm going out to spend time with friends. i'm paying for the experience of spending time with them, and what i am eating is secondary - it helps me to not worry so much about what i order and makes it easier to order 'stuff i'd make at home so easily so why should i pay for this....'

YMMV, of course.

Well, ATTEMPT to embroider collar and cuffs. Because...I'm crazy like that. :)

Maybe thinking about the "hanging out" factor instead of the food is a good way to go. I'll try that. I have gotten in the habit of always ordering water. I used to always drink soda when I went out and it has greatly helped that I hardly drink any sodas anymore.

Thanks!

don't beat yourself up too badly about the eating-out thing. It's okay to splurge every now and then, and as long as it's not a 3-4 times a week occasion, you should be fine. (That's what I tell myself, anyhow...)

You're reminding me that I need to get out and prune the azaleas before they start growing buds. They look a little wild right now!

Good luck with your embroidery! That's the one thing I haven't really done much with. Embroidery, for me, is like pulling teeth. I do it occasionally, and sometimes I even get the urge to do it, but I don't like it, and I'd much rather barter out the work to someone else. :P

Hey, on that note, is there a good/bad way to prune azaleas? Most of the plants in our yard haven't been pruned for at least 2-3 years so some of the plants are a little crazy. I don't think anyone in my family has ever pruned any azelas that we have had in the past, we've just kinda let them do their own thing. Thanks!

I generally just start snipping to make it all look nice. I cut buds and stems indiscriminantly, and pray. :P I haven't read up on how to do it, but I do know that whenever cutting back any plant, you should leave at least 1/3 of the plant to sprout new growth. (Except grapes... but that's another headache... er... story.)

So just start cutting... you'll be fine. :) Sounds like you need shaping more than anything, and as long as you leave some greenery in the area you're cutting, it should all be good. I'm not an expert, though, so if anyone else reads this, I won't be offended if you say, "NOOOOOO!" :)

When I managed the travel agency (which was pretty high stress) I think I gained 30lbs in those 2-3 years. Not so good.

I've now lost almost 40lbs so I'm doing OK but there are a few habits I need to get a bit better at, like making some better eating out choices. It really is scary the amount of cal/fat in eating establishments. Many of them have started giving nutritional info online which is great but sometimes surprising.

I was going to Bear Rock cafe thinking, sandwiches, how bad could that be. Good thing I looked online because some of their sandwiches had like 50 - 80 grams of fat. Which is really frightening.

Thanks for the advice on the embroidery. That's a really good point. I should be able to make some pattern choices where if I don't get it completely done it doesn't look completely weird. Thanks!
