Sudden computer issue

Jan 13, 2013 01:13

So tonight my computer suddenly began giving me a hard disk error. It's the first time I've ever had a comp do that.

Do I state panicking, back shit up and start thinking if replacements? Or do I take a breath, calm down a little and start backing shit up?

I would say take a deep breath, settle down a bit, then start backing stuff up to be safe. Never hurts to periodically back stuff up anyway. Once everything's backed up, maybe try doing a scandisk and then a defrag on your own afterwards, see if the drive really is dying? Then you can start shopping around for a replacement drive, and in the meantime, you've already got everything backed up and ready to go for whatever ends up happening.

Do your back-up first. You could try pressing F9 when you next boot up, and do a system scan. You could also do a system restore to the last day the puter was working fine--I assume yesterday.

Backup is a must anyway. But make sure to do it calm or else you're going to mess something up.

The hard disk error might not be a big deal, though to be honest, I'd have to ask my dad what that could mean.

Either way, start saving for a new computer. If you're starting to get errors, it may simply be your computer going, "I'm old and cranky," and you'll want to get a young new whippersnapper.

Asked my computer tech boyfriend and he said to back up everything and get a new hard drive because the one you have now is on its way to deaths door.
