Tyler is benched, his neck stiff and sore from the whiplash of the hit he took, the front of his throat bruised black, the soft tissue puffy even with the ibuprofen he’s taking. Jamie thought he’d put up a fuss. Thought he’d argue and insist on working. It worries him, how little Tyler fights the order to rest ( Read more... )

I'm so far behind on this! But that just means I have a nice long meaty read tomorrow. Then I'll get back to you after.

Poor Ashleigh. I can see why Tyler said what he said though. If he'd tried to fill her with sunshine and puppies she'd have 'known' something was wrong. And huh, not having read the original story I hadn't realized Darius was quite so young.

It has been a while since Darius got much screen time. The first time they make a plan, he's the one that gets left with the breaking-walls job and tyler is thinking "okay Jamie, the kid is 9. he's not gonna be able to do that"

He's barely mentioned in the original--they don't even say his name.

Ah, Tyler. Good intentions, good plan, shitty follow-up. Sometimes he really is just a kid.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure his age was mentioned before this but for some reason I hadn't realized Tyler was only 17. I was thinking something more like 20 for some reason. It may only be 2-3 years but there's a big difference between 17 and 20, especially with the male of the species.

Definitely. He's had to be more empathic than most boys his age, had to grow up faster than some, but he still makes dumb-kid mistakes.

In the first story, the age difference could be kind of creepy, but it's so much Tyler being experienced and confident and Jamie closeted and awkward and never having been with a guy.
