Nine new people. It takes a couple days to get them in and settled. It’s close enough to winter that it’s not too hot to stay in the south west corner of the complex, back in Jamie’s old rooms. They open the wall, joining the room they used last winter to the master bedroom next door. Everyone will move in to share heat and light when it gets ( Read more... )

Since I've already Ch 30 it was hard not to jump and comment their but this chapter deserves its own comment. Eduardo was right and I'm glad that it only took Jamie a few seconds to catch up. Jamie knew it had to be done but until this whole bucket of shit got upended on humanity he's probably never had to face the really hardcore realities of life. His whole character is to give people the benefit of the doubt. He even tried to give what's his name, the teammate who was bitten at the beginning the benefit of the doubt. I'm a little more hardcore. Knowing what Leon had done, even if he didn't know where the apartment building was and could never find it, I think he'd forfeited his right to live and probably terrorize others.

So kudos Eduardo.

And the Memorial? That got me a little choked up. It was a good idea. I'll keep it in mind should I be lucky enough to survive the impending zombie apocalypse.

To be honest, if Jamie wasn't the type to give second chances, he never would have spoken to Tyler after their first night when Tyler left a sick/dying puppy in his living room and snuck out in the night. :)

Eduardo always has been the smart one. In the original fic, he's the one of the three street kids (Tyler, Eduardo, Dion) who goes to school, gets a degree, etc. He sees that Jamie isn't gonna. He knows Tyler will assume Jamie has seen the danger and accepts it, and it's a coin-toss if Tyler will follow Jamie's lead or argue. So he takes the shot. Gets lucky and actually kills the guy with the .22

Oh man, I played with ideas for the memorial for a long time. Like it's been a year. they need something. Some kind of closure. But a ceremony-type thing would be really hard on some of them. Too much. Tyler would have bolted, most likely.
