Skyrim…

I have very mixed feelings about this game. After the greenery of Oblivion, everything here is just too grey. Pretty, but not colourful enough. I made a wrong decision creating a Redguard character. She’s not connected with the surrounding. I had to invent a backstory for her just to fit her in somehow. Would be much easier with a Nord, but I don’t ( Read more... )

Sounds like you feel about the same way I do! Except I hadn't even played Oblivion, so I have no clue about my character's backstory at all. (She's Imperial, which doesn't mean much to me at the mo; I'm hoping I'll learn more as the game goes on!)

I'm also specialising in destruction magic but I do have a sword/bow too - for the times I run out of Magicka and also for things like the Companions, who won't let you use magic to join them. (Though after that I did leave them.)

To be honest, I'm cheating (because I hate fighting and, what's more important, surviving), so I have unlimited health and unlimited Magicka. My girl has some experience with a one-handed sword though, used it before studying double-casting.

My boy is playing this right now, and I'm mixed on whether or not I'll play it. I wasn't a big fan of Fallout, but I don't know if it's because of the system or the fact that I can't stand post-apocalyptic settings.

I'd say watch it first if possible. This game is beautiful, despite all the greyness, and northern nature is much more appealing than post-apocalyptic wastelands. What may put you off is that there are ridiculously many things to do, places to visit and questlines to follow, so it seems to be endless and, to some extent, pointless.

I chalk the grey up to being in the North, but I definitely agree with you about the setting as well. To me this game feels 100 times more like Bethesda's Fallout entries than the way the Fallout games felt like Oblivion, and featuring veritable wastelands seems to have influenced the color palette of Skyrim.

My main issue with the Stormcloaks is the fact that Nords seem to dislike elves, at least as far as I've seen in the game (only played Oblivion for about 20 hours, since I have the PC version and crappy computer). I've heard a lot of people saying Ulfric is really racist towards them, and that's a Big Deal to me. But then I dislike how the Imperials are trying to dictate religion and culture when such a large group of people desire to approach otherwise.

Is there an option for a USB 360 controller for Skyrim? Not big on PC playing but I've witnessed a few PC gaming friends use them to play certain games.

I think there is no "good" side in the Civil War storyline. Both have their issues. I've chosen my side because I was against Imperials (or at least I think my character would be against them), not because I supported Stormcloaks' views.

I don't think it would help. I'm not good at console playing. The only games I finished on 360 were Assassin's Creed (because it looks gorgeous on a big TV screen) and Fable 2 and 3 (because there was no PC version when I was playing them). :)
