“Look at the view,” Dean Smith, Castiel's newest partner on this business venture, breathed, pressing a hand reverentially against the window of their airplane, which he'd insisted on sitting close to and Castiel had permitted, not caring about such fickle things as panoramas.

Dean's eyes were bright and childish in his handsome face, a luminescent beam breaking across his lips, and Castiel was abruptly reminded of when he used to get excited by the sight of wispy clouds, of when he was the youngest child of a too big family and rarely received attention, when he used to dream of flying without aid, before he became so jaded about these implausibilities.

“We were never rich enough to travel like this,” Dean continued, voice whittled down to a husky whisper, his awed tone prompting Castiel to cock his head and listen, living vicariously in Dean's innocent wonder.

Oh my gosh, I'm bouncing. I love this, the image of Dean being fascinated by all the things Castiel's become jaded by, and Castiel being fascinated by Dean's joy. I enjoy the idea of some small part of Castiel coming back to life through Dean's exploration of what, to him, is a new world.

I really like Dean's enthusiasm, how he seems so young and fresh, like this is where he started, what life has been waiting for. This feels like a turning point, a crucial moment that will set of a chain of reactions that will define who these two men become in the future. It's just epic in its feel and I love it.

I feel like this happened in canon, too, with Dean opening Castiel's eyes to a new world, albeit in very different circumstances, so I can agree with all your points. ♥

I'm so happy you enjoyed it, darling. I wanted to capture some of what happened in canon, between these two, and shape it into one mundane moment, and I have to say that 'Dean Smith' was a very enjoyable throwaway that Supernatural gave us. I wonder how much of Dean - aside from the obvious and what was emphasized - would have remained in him, had he been his own character?
