Favorite Song Meme
What's your favorite song by...
The Beatles?
It varies from year to year, but right now it's "Nowhere Man."
The Rolling Stones?
"Jumping Jack Flash." It always reminds me of the end of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas where Johnny Depp, playing Raoul Duke, leaves Las Vegas in the Big Red Shark and drives across the desert with the American flag flapping behind him.
Frank Sinatra?
"New York, New York."
Elvis Presley?
"Suspicious Minds." A lot of my favorite songs by Elvis were made when he was fat, washed out and doing it Vegas-style.
Bob Dylan?
"Like a Rolling Stone."
The Who?
"Squeeze Box."
Led Zeppelin?
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You."
Pink Floyd?
"Wish You Were Here."
The Police
"Message in a Bottle."
Johnny Cash?
"I've Been Everywhere." I try so hard to sing along with it, but it's too fast. It's one of my goals in life to sing this karaoke.
Aerosmith?
"Shut Up and Dance."
Elton John?
Okay I have to do two for this one: "Your Song" (because it is Greg and I's song) and "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters."
Any Motown act from the 60's?
Like my predecessor of this survey said, this is a bit of a broad question. I will say The Temptations - "Can't Get Next to You." I didn't like the movie Elizabethtown, but the thing that made me not hate it was Cameron Crowe's choice of music. This song was Orlando Bloom's cell phone ring, and it was so ridiculously out of place and didn't fit with his character's personality (or perhaps it didn't fit with the way Bloom played him... God he's a tool). I laughed out loud every time it rang. The phone would vibrate and light up, and seemed to dance with the music. Who wouldn't?
James Brown?
"Living in America." I love Rocky IV.
The Eagles?
"Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!" A lot of their songs sound the same, but I like "Take It Easy."
Fleetwood Mac?
"The Chain."
The Carpenters?
I'm not a big fan of The Carpenters, because their songs are really sappy and sentimental, but I love, love, love Karen Carpenter's voice. The only Carpenter's song I have on my playlist at the moment is "We've Only Just Begun." I only like it when it picks up, though.
Billy Joel?
"Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)."
Michael Jackson or the Jackson 5?
"Don't Stop Till You Get Enough."
The Ramones?
The only Ramones song I have on my list is "Surfin' Bird."
U2?
"Where the Streets Have No Name."
Lou Reed or the Velvet Underground?
The only Lou Reed song I have on my playlist is "Lisa Says," because one day I was downloading a bunch of songs with my name in it. I don't like this one that much. I like "Perfect Day" better, which I can listen to on the Trainspotting soundtrack.
The Stooges or Iggy Pop?
The only song I have is "Lust for Life," another Trainspotting song.
Stevie Wonder?
"Superstition." I also really like "Sir Duke." It was so much fun to sing that in concert choir.
Hank Williams (Sr.)?
I don't know much by him, but I really liked "Why Don't You Love Me Like You Used to Do" after watching The Last Picture Show. It seems that a lot of music I like begins with its placement in movies.
Hall & Oates?
I don't have any Hall & Oates. I don't know why.
Madonna?
Hard! Okay "Vogue."
Janet Jackson?
"Rhythm Nation."
Black Sabbath or Ozzy?
I don't know. "Paranoid" I guess.
Alice Cooper?
"School's Out" is the only Alice Cooper song I have.
Bob Marley?
"Redemption Song."
Any rap artist?
Salt-N'-Pepa! "Push It" (Push it real good!).
Nirvana?
"Where Did You Sleep Last Night."
Foo Fighters?
"Monkey Wrench."
Neil Young?
"Horse With No Name."
The Cure?
I don't like them.
The Smiths?
"How Soon Is Now?" That's the only one I really know. I'm so lame.
Talking Heads?
"Our House in the Middle of the Street." Another band I don't know a lot of.
The Flaming Lips?
"Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1."
Sonic Youth?
What?
R.E.M.?
"Man on the Moon."
Liz Phair?
Somebody told me one time that I looked like Liz Phair... I have no fucking idea why. I don't know her music. Perhaps I should give it a listen?
Radiohead?
"No Surprises." I can't listen to Radiohead for the most part, though. They're great, but their songs can be so depressing.
The White Stripes?
"Seven Nation Army." Only because he says, "I'm goin' to Wichita!"
Neutral Milk Hotel?
What?
Add your own artist! (I'm adding two).
Cake?
It varies according to my mood. All of Cake's songs are my favorite, but if I had to choose one it would be (fuck this is hard!)... okay I can't choose one. "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" and "Comfort Eagle."
Tom Petty/Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers/The Traveling Wilburys?
"You're So Bad."
I just wasted half of my Saturday. Go team me.
