There's no confidence to be had. DC upper echelon is pulling ideas out of their asses and then making words from those ideas that require talking out of both sides of their mouths. They're releasing a prequel to Watchmen to see if past fans will bite, while rebooting the entire continuity to pretend that they're no longer interested in their old readers and want new ones. Makes no sense. DC management and marketing is insane. And it's showing up in the product, which is even worse. Artists capable of breathtakingly good pencils are turning in subpar work, and the few halfway decent writers they retained are so reined in with the gag bits of Editorial Decisions that the writing makes no sense

I'm mildly disappointed that they didn't go whole hog and decide to have Liefeld illustrate these prequels. If you're going to do a thing wrong, then you might as well do it . . . right??
I hadn't even thought of it from the "we're rebooting EVERYTHING / we're making prequels of OLD THINGS" perspective, but you're right--that makes it even more bizarre and facepalm-worthy.
