I'm rather liking the idea of a guerrilla con running at least partly alongside the main one. Hell, I'd jump on a train to Brighton and support it. I wonder how many authors and fans would be up for it?

I thought about it. Even looked at function space in other hotels. But in the end, I don't have the energy. I'm just about up for sitting in a pub and talking to people...

pub sounds the best way forward tbh. And if people congregate there rather than the con so much the better :)

And the latest seems to be that panels giving advice on writing or the business thereof are "not in line with the organizers' vision for WFC"

Yes, that one's been kicking around for a while (see faqs). I'm reluctant to castigate the con for it, as it seems to genuinely be a WFC board requirement: albeit a very strange one.
