"short staffed" and "short handed" may be very similar in meaning.

"understaffed" and "underhanded" however, do not.

I was talking about one of the projects I'm on that was already short on people, and then someone moved away. Luckily, the person I was talking to at the time was my sister - who got a real kick out of it. :-)
