My ADD Insane Boss

Feb 18, 2012 01:10

So, this has been building up for a while and I don't want to put this out on FB.  :-p  (Even though, I have 2 separate FB accounts for this very reason :-p)

I have been working at The Pink Place since late September and I'm just going out of my mind with how ADD my boss there is.

You tell her in an email that no, you can NOT be there at 8:30 in the morning because you have a private client at that time at home, so what does she do?  Schedules a 9:30 client and then, is leaving increasingly panicking voice mails and text messages for you, wondering where you're at.  Uhm, pardon me?  The email clearly stated "Can not be there at 8:30 because I have a private client at home (Spa 4 U) scheduled at that time."  Her answer, "You didn't tell me that...."  (I have the emails to back this up!  But, of course, it's never her fault.  She's never wrong.)

Another email exchange with her:  Complaints about the floors in the massage rooms looking and being absolutely filthy. (Seriously?  WTF were you thinking lady when you went with white painted concrete floors?! They are not warm and inviting at all and are damn cold to walk across any time of year!)  You know there's a problem with the floors being way too dirty when the clients' feet are turning black from the dirt and that's just 3 feet from the wall to the table.  Her response, "Oh, I've been meaning to buy rugs for the rooms and it was only one person on Yelp who put in the review about the floors..."  Well, that's something the needs to be addressed!  That was back in late November I asked her about rugs for the rooms because the floors were a problem.  Here it is February and nothing had been done.

So, who went out and bought rugs for Rooms 1 & 3 that had NO carpeting in them - co-worker T, not Boss Lady.  Who put the rug down in Three?  Co-workers T, K & I with the help of our sweet receptionist C.  (She's one of the ones I will miss when I either leave there or she goes off to school come August, because she's sweet but can be truly a devil hidden in sweetness when dealing w a confrontational customer.  *g*)  Again, no involvement from Boss Lady whatsoever.

For some odd reason, she doesn't buy supplies in bulk, "because of the economy" is her excuse, yet she lets her "manager" a 20-something spoiled brat who does nothing but play on Facebook all damn day long at work, order some of the most overpriced JUNK - i.e. a $20 glitter covered pencil pouch, or a tie-dyed thermal shirt priced at like $89 to sell in the shop.  Another useless item is a long sleeved t-shirt that SPA letters in red over a yellow chick again, for like $90.  Was this embroidered on, or silk screened?  Nope, just stitched on.  Seriously?  Gah!  Plus, out of all the clothing they order - they order nothing above like a size 10, usually.  I'm sorry, but if you want to sell more of these clothing lines, you need to order real sizes!  Not all of the clientele there is size 4 or less.

Now, all of our small bottles of food dye that we use to color the epsom salt for the pedicure soaking either got used up or put away somewhere where we couldn't find them.  We ask Boss Lady to get us like one or two big bottle of food dye and her response, "They make big bottles of food dye?  I thought you could only buy small bottles in a multipack."  (I'm speechless at that.  I'm getting the impression more and more that she was that she was a bored housewife who never lifted a finger in the kitchen at all.  She's useless at making the massage tables - which, is really not that hard to do.)

We constantly run out of pedicure slippers because she refuses to buy them a case at a time for like $40 (for like four packs), instead, spends $20+ at Sally Beauty Supply every other week for one pack (which is like 20 pairs, I think?).  I say, "Oh, we need laundry soap, we're running low."  Her:  "I'll get it at Sam's club on Monday," yet will not write it down and forget about it.  Or, we will run out of dish soap and I tell her that we need more in order to wash out the pedicure and manicure bowls.  "I'll run over to Ace Hardware and get some today."  Will she?  Nope!  It's in one ear and out the other.

Sunday, Boss Lady closed (much to our dismay, because we love working on Sundays when she's not there - we're so much more relaxed without her driving us bonkers)  and I will admit that I left the candle burning in Room 3, but I was room hopping that day, pretty much going from room 2 to room 3 only to finish up in 2 at the end of the day. It'd been a week and I was tired.  Now, as closer, it is your responsibility to make sure everything is turned off, yes?  Well, she didn't and the candle was left burning in Room 3.  She didn't go into Room 3 to actually verify that everything was indeed off.  I got in on Wednesday and there was a huge note posted above the schedule computer in the back and she's blaming us for her mistake. I got the story from awesome co-worker K that Boss Lady said she looked in Room 3 and didn't see that the candle was still burning.

Now, Friday, we ran out of pedicure slippers again and so, Boss Lady runs off to Sally's and it's less than a half mile away, so you'd think it would only take a few minutes to go up there, grab a pack of the slippers and come back to the spa, right?  No!  She's gone for TWO HOURS. WTF?  Then, she leaves again and is gone for the rest of the day.

Another prime example:  She schedules me to do an hour massage on this girl in one of the lounge chairs that we use for the pedicures.  She absolutely refuses to listen to me that it hurts me to do these chair massages.  I tell her this, and her response, "Well, she's tiny, she won't need that much deep work..."    That doesn't matter!  To do these chair massages, I can only use my hands.  Not my forearms, or my weight to push forward to move down the back or up the legs or arms.  The girl gets there, that's not what she wants - she wants to be back on one of the massage tables and can't understand why she can't do that.  This is the Boss Lady's psycho changing of the rules midstream.  She's allowed this girl, who's fifteen, mind you, to go back to the treatment room before to get worked on w/o her mom being in the room.  Now, she's saying this can't happen because, "Someone might notice and report her to the state board..." (There are other things I'd report her to the state board for before taking a teenager back to get a massage w/o mom in the room.)  The point in this - the spa wasn't that busy and the people who were there were too busy with either getting or receiving services.

As far as I can remember, it's not illegal to treat a minor without the parent in the room.  I thought it was fine that if the parent signed off on it, that they didn't have to be present.  And, it's not like this fifteen year old girl can't speak up and defend herself if something were to go wrong.  She wasn't "tiny" like the crazy boss said she was.  She was taller than me and played sports!  Besides, this girl's mother was going to be right out in the front of the shop anyway getting a manicure!

This is something I still need to get clarification on from the state but my brief google search did not lead me to anything saying yes or no on the subject.

And, this, this is why I am job huning.  I need a job that will really pay the bills while I go out and pound the streets for private clients.

annoying boss, life, work suckage
