Yesterday I posted 8 months late about a short holiday we had in Jersey last October. By that standard, today's post is barely late at all, since it's about a holiday we had in early May, in the Wye Valley ( Read more... )

Um, Roman stone lion? But surely that's a slug with a monstrous face and unexpected arms? Lol! :D :D

I think clouds in photos can be very atmospheric and add to the picture immensely! I took some in York of the Minster with a sunny/cloudy sky above. Not had chance to see if they came out alright yet (only got back Friday and Stuff Has Been Happening since then *rolls eyes*).

As we left, we thanked the staff for laying on such a good audio-visual recreation of the Civil War siege. - LOL, brilliant!! :D :D

It sounds like you had a very good time, despite some rain. Though the kingfishers were clearly playing hide and seek with you, but not others around you! Maybe next time you'll be blessed with a view of one and no one else! :D

I have friends who go to Raglan for a camping event most years. I only know it from their pictures of people, so it’s nice to see the whole site. What is that thing that looks like a two-legged pot with handles that look like little arms (just above the mermaid)?

It's cauldron, with an inscription on it saying that it was made in Mechlin in 1500, described in the guide book as "the nun's cooking pot." (Although I guess it could equally have been bought in by some later owner, since the nunnery only lasted for a few decades after 1500.) Lacock cloisters were used as a filming location in Harry Potter, so the prominent position of the cauldron feels apt.

Lovely. Thank you. I have seen cauldrons like that in manuscripts but that one is particularly huge and the non-kitchen setting really threw me.
