One day I will post something that isn't a belated holiday write-up, but today is not that day. Once again, there will be far too many words and pictures, and a good few comical lions. There is also a guest appearance by my other favourite art thing: the drunken eagle

Love the photos, all the comical and weird creatures, nice views etc. We've seen The Museum of the Moon when it came to Derby cathedral a while back (it's been again since, but we weren't able to go this time) and that was fascinating! Looks like the Earth one is every bit as awe insipiring!

My Mum was born and brought up in Chaddesden, and has been telling me about very bad floods they had back in 1967 or so. My parents had just moved into their first house, with a pretty little babbling brook in the garden, and all their newly planted plants ended up half way up a tree! It sounds pretty terrifying... so if it's even worse than that, then eek! Hope you're okay in them.

I think a lot of houses were saved due to recently completed flood defences the council have put in, so it's possible they wouldn't have had that issue (though wow, that is pretty scary!) - most of the flooding was on major roads (A52, A61 etc), and a few minor ones.
That said, there were some houses flooded, but the council are very active about this issue and a) are working on two more phases of flood defences (planned already, just a shame this flood beat them being finished) and b) are looking into where houses were flooded to see what they can do to prevent it in future (in some cases, it was only one house on one road, for instance, so maybe special flood gates and fences for that house might be the answer).
But yeah, I do feel bad for those that had their homes or businesses flooded :( We're fine, we're on a hill and, fortunately, the water runs past our house and doesn't get backed up anywhere, so we've never flooded.
