One does not simply walk...

For a while now, Facebook has been giving me adverts for a Walking to Mordor virtual challenge, and I've been very tempted, but put off by the ridiculously high price. However, half way through January, I decided to give it a go. Ever since I finished my Walking All The Paths project a couple of years ago, I've done rather less walking than I used ( Read more... )

It's just a shame that the countryside is full of unmitigated squelch and all the interesting paths have fallen into the sea over the winter...

Same here. Instead of looking at the OS map and planning weekend expeditions to New Places, I have to try and remember places I have walked that have a well-drained gravel or chalk track which might just be passable in walking boots.

We're doing the same. That's why we did the circuit in the forest last week. We knew it was all on gravel forestry tracks. But at least the waterfalls were very spectacular.

I have to be careful with challenges, as I can get obsessed by finishing them too. Usually not walking, though I really do need to get out more - once my dodgy left knee is (hopefully) sorted! (Doctor says it could just be the tendons etc are a bit loose, and if so, physio should sort it. If it's 'wear and tear', then, yeah, might be more difficult to manage *sigh*. Hoping for loose tendons here!)

I think we could all do with a dry patch right now. Of course, being the UK, that dry patch could become a drought in certain areas, and then we'll be hoping for a spot of rain, lol! The weather is rarely quite right, is it?!

I did their Hadrian’s Wall Challenge and was also disappointed by the postcards and lack of live tracking. The medal was nice enough, but I don’t need more medals at any price, so now I just set my own goals.
