I think I remember that his (human) granddaughter was the first companion seen. So was this his actual, biological granddaughter, or not?

There's nothing onscreen to suggest she isn't his biological granddaughter, and she isn't human (she's telepathic and super-intelligent and since she recognises Gallifrey on sight and non-Gallifreyans weren't allowed on the planet, presumably she was born there)

What was Arcadia?

It's never been mentioned before.

How was Gallifrey destroyed?

The Doctor destroyed it. (This isn't from the old series - the Time War happens offscreen, last time we saw the Doctor, when he was Eight, Gallifrey was still around. But he says in Dalek that the Daleks and the Time Lords were destroyed in the same moment and that he made it happen.)

What was the Doctor to the other Time Lords? He was a rebel - the First Doctor nicked a TARDIS and went on the run, getting himself exiled in the process. When the Time Lords caught up with him he was executed (this is how Two regenerated into Three) and exiled to Earth. ( ... )

Thank you so much for responding!

Later regenerations were still at odds with the Time Lords but ended up getting called in if something was threatening them.

What did he have that they didn't?

Hmm... experience? Most Time Lords have never left Gallifrey (Mr Finch is spot on when he calls them 'dusty senators'); they're not very innovative.

So that's why the Doctor nicked the Tardis? Or was that not the first time he left Gallifrey?
