I went to the mall with mom this morning to check on my application for Foley's (now Macy's). I asked the lady in human resources about it and she goes to look through applications, pulls out mine and says "I'm glad you came, I was just about to call you." I get an interview, get the job and fill out the paperwork. I'm now officially an employee ( Read more... )

Think they'd hire me for a month? I want to find something in Baytown for the time from when I get back tommorrow til I leave August 22nd...

Apparently the universe decided to even things out. My getting a job made me really happy and accomplished, and I checked the mail yesterday afternoon to find a jury summons with my name on it. Still hoping for a loop hole, but I haven't found one yet.

Well, the easiest thing is to not go. The U.S. Postal service is a reeeally unreliable way to transport such a summons...what if you lost it? What if, by some fluke, you didn't receive it until well after the court date?

Or, since you're keen on cash anyway, remember that you will be paid for your time, and sometimes the jury screening process can be fun. "Are you a racist?" and such.
