I...actually watched television, today. Well, sort of. An episode on Hulu, via my computer. I'm not sure if that counts or not. But I watched it...and I enjoyed it.
My actual television gets zero worthwhile reception because of the position my house is in, topographically. (A really fuzzy KVOS from Bellingham, WA, does not count. The 24-hour Christian station REALLY does not count. Those are the only 2 channels my t.v. gets without cable, which I refuse to purchase.)
Seriously, television has not been worth it for me for a very long time. Over 10 years ago, Firefly--a creative, funny, inventive, simply awesome mix of drama, comedy, scifi and western, produced by Joss Whedon--was cancelled mid-season. At that point, it was pretty much the only thing left worth watching on television for me, and when the network execs pulled the plug--without warning--and replaced it with a reality t.v. show (*gag*), I gave up on television.
This turned out to be a boon, because I suddenly had a couple hours every day to fill, which I did so by focusing on my writing instead of mindlessly clicking the remote control. That in turn got me putting up fanfics online, which in turn got me noticed by an editor at a major publishing company, which in turn got me launched into my dream career as a multi-published author.
I gave up on television.
...Except for when I'm on vacation. Then the television gets turned to The Weather Channel, lol. (That's how I know I'm on vacation, in a hotel room somewhere. XD ) Still, I have not watched any show with any semblance of regularity in over ten years. Over. Ten. Years. Heroes didn't draw me out. Smallville couldn't keep me glued to the set. Even Enterprise had lost my attention when Firefly was cancelled. I gave up.
But...and understand I am not a slavish, drooling Joss Whedon fangirl; I never really got into Buffy or Angel and didn't like the premise of DollHouse...he put together the Marvel's Avengers movie, and he did an absolutely outstanding job. And then I heard Joss Whedon was going to put together Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
Which I just watched, via Hulu.
I enjoyed it.
I shall make time to watch further episodes.
I will still judge each one cautiously, because like a certain Babylon 5 spin-off, the execs may try to act like some rabid space monster humping away mindlessly at the space ship, f**king with it while we're trying to get the story/job done. I was burned by what happened to poor, inventive, creative, brilliant Firefly.
But the Agents have my attention. For now.
...I still will not be paying for cable television, and I will not be looking at other shows. Hulu's an acceptable way to watch; they still have ads like television and I know that's how they get their revenue, so I'm okay with that. But I'll watch it on my terms, in my own timeframe.
My writing still comes first.

P.S. Maybe someday someone will hand Joss a copy of one of my books and say, "Here, read this; I think it'd make a killer television series. What do you think?" Or they'll hand it to Joe (JMS, creator of B5). Those are two directors, producers, & writers who are actually fans of the genre.
(...For the record: Nobody's handing over my stories to M. Night ShyeahI'llGetItRight. I liked The Sixth Sense, but that was it...oh, and my stories will not be white/caucasian/ethnicity-washed. I hold all dramatic presentation rights (excluding audiobook), and I will have Creative Oversight. Why? Because of what they did to Andre Norton's fan-damn-tastic scifi novel, Beastmaster. Read it, then watch the "movie" of the same name, and you'll know very well why I will retain Oversight.)
