Please excuse me while I rant about what this country considers national news. For the past few days, the topic on every front page, every news station, and every internet news headline is this ridiculous conflict between a black Harvard scholar and a white cop ( Read more... )

I've had to restrain myself from writing an entry similar to this one, only because if I attempted it my result would be about ten time shorter than yours, and a million times less eloquent. I'm... not good at writing things without a cool head.

I'd also like to add that when the police released the recordings of Crowley radioing for backup or whatever, Gates was audibly shouting things about Crowley's mother in the background.

MEANWHILE, because of the dearth of actual news in this country and the apathy and ignorance of its populace, we're stuck with a "left wing" forced to "defend" a public option for health care against accusations that it would amount to a single payer system... which is sort of like me "defending" my lunch by saying, "No, no, this turkey sandwich is not delicious; it's merely kinda tasty."

As for the sales tax... ugh, this comment's long enough all ready.

People who are not black people will never be able to understand just what went down in Cambridge.

And so what if it turns out that Gates WAS looking for "a teaching moment."

I have students who honestly believe that there is no more racism in this country. It's there. Every day. In ways most white people can never imagine.

From what little I've skimmed, seems the boys went to see 'Bama and had themselves a beer. Time to move on--but racism is alive and well and needs to be brought out and talked about every single time.
